Though Brett is particularly knowledgeable about wealth management and the transfer of wealth among generations, he is also keenly interested in helping his clients preserve their assets and their independence while they are living. He is an active member of the San Mateo County Bar’s Estate Planning and Probate section.

Professional Summary

Brett S. Lytle joined the firm of in July 2007. Previously he was a partner of the mid-Peninsula law firm Howard, Lytle, Mah and Jackson for 20 years.

Brett’s practice emphasizes counseling clients, families, and businesses in legal and tax matters, estate planning, wealth preservation, wealth transfer and asset preservation relating to his clients’ goals for the management and transfer of their wealth and care for their loved ones to the next generation and beyond. Brett also strives to protect and preserve your assets and your independence while you are living.

Brett completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1980. He received a Master’s of Science in Taxation and a Jurist Doctorate from the University of Gonzaga, in 1984. He then received a Master of Law in Business and Taxation-Transnational Practice from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1985.

Brett is admitted to practice in the California Supreme Court, the District Of Columbia Appellate Court, United States Tax Court and United States Court of International Trade. Additionally, he was also a member of the Board of Directors of San Francisco and San Mateo American Lung Association, Redwood City AYSO, Mission Hospice, Mountain View-Los Altos High School Foundation and the Stanford Storm Field Hockey Club.

As a prerequisite for California Department of Insurance’s continuing education program, Brett developed a course entitled Needs Benefit Approach to Estate Planning for Insurance Professionals. This course qualifies for 12 hours of continuing education for the life Insurance Professional. In addition to providing continuing education seminars for Insurance Professionals, Enrolled Agents, Certified Public Accountants and Certified Financial Planners for the following companies The MONY Group, Principal Financial Group, Mass Mutual, Safeco, First American Title Company, Forster’s, New England Life and AXA. Brett also provides estate planning seminars for clients and professionals in the insurance, financial planning, real estate and tax preparation fields. Brett is a national as well as an international speaker and has spoken in numerous conventions across the United States and on international platforms. Additionally, he speaks for charities like the American Lung Association, Alzheimer Association, Better Breathers, Dolger Senior Center, Coastside Senior Center, Forster’s, The Northern California Hakka Association, The Friends of Children with Special Needs and KMUAA. Brett has also co-authored a book on What to do When a Loved One Dies.

Brett lives with his wife, Pam, and their family dog, Maddie. Their youngest child, Drew, is attending graduate school, their middle child, Beth, graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Communications and is attending SFSU for speech therapy and their oldest, Sarah, graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Communications and is in graduate school for interior design and currently lives in Mountain View.
